What I Learned From Seth Godin Last Week [2021W48]
This series is about Seth's most important ideas as compiled from his blog last week.
I'm a HUGE fan of Seth Godin's work. His blog, books, talks, and ideas are all gold for anyone who does anything creative or entrepreneurial.
This series is about Seth's most important ideas as compiled from his blog last week. I don't think you can learn too much about marketing, creativity, and life lessons from Seth.
Hope it helps you.
The oracle
(Posted on 29th November 2021)
This post teaches us that we need to know that the voices in our head are not always accurate. Sometimes they are not even accurate for our life, because they are not telling us about our life in a way that we can use to our advantage.
We need to be able to trust ourselves and others to help us succeed, rather than being in constant fear of failure.
We should not assume that the voices in our head are always correct, because they are not.
The lifeguard hack
(Posted on 30th November 2021)
Seth talks about the selflessness of a lifeguard. These people do not think about their own life first before helping another person. They help the other person first and then they think about themselves.
Seth compares this to the way he wants to help others. He does not want to think about himself first before helping others. Instead, he just wants to help others.
Seth says that by helping others we can unlock doors within us that we never knew existed. This is called generosity. We should do our best to help others even if it takes some effort. If we are a good person, we will be rewarded with more opportunities in our life.
Chief Apology Officer
(Posted on 1st December 2021)
Companies often create this position to protect themselves from criticism.
Instead of making an effort to change something that they want to keep the same, they hire someone to act as an apologist for them.
The CAO is not allowed to talk about anything that will improve the situation. If a problem arises, they have to be polite and say “thank you very much for your input.”
The goal is to let the company not have to take any responsibility for what has happened. This position can make the company very unhappy and not a good place to work.
Customer service is free
(Posted on 2nd December 2021)
We should never forget that customer service is a profit center. We should always remember that our customers will spread our message to their friends and family.
Therefore, we should always try our best to provide good customer service. We should always remember that every interaction we have with our customers can be remembered by them and that can be very useful for us in the future.
We should always consider what is good for our customers.
Do you feel rich?
(Posted on 3rd December 2021)
Seth talks about how different people would answer the question of being rich differently.
Some people say that they feel rich because of their wealth, and others say that they feel rich because of their access to knowledge, technology, and information.
Seth thinks that we can choose what we think is true and that this is important in deciding what we want in life.
UYBJ
(Posted on 4th December 2021)
Seth compares the use of the acronym UYBJ to the acronym WWHMV. WWHMV stands for “When in doubt, move your feet.”
In contrast, Seth states that using UYBJ does not mean you will succeed when you do something or have a great time, and it is not a guarantee. He believes that you should be prepared to take action on your own because we should all take responsibility for our actions and because this could help us improve our lives.
Perhaps it’s worth throwing it out today
(Posted on 5th December 2021)
Seth believes that we shouldn’t think about the unknowns in life and how we can achieve the future. He believes that we should embrace the unknowns of life and be ready for the future by trying to make the best of the present.
